TALKING TREES: WHY URBAN FORESTS MATTER On Thursday 22 September 2011 the Victorian Local Sustainability Accord (Accord) held a breakfast event exploring the benefits provided by urban trees and challenges facing councils in managing them. The Victorian Local Sustainability Advisory Committee (VLSAC), in consultation with Accord partners and local governments across Victoria, identified trees and urban landscapes as an issue for local governments. The event is a demonstration of the Accord’s commitment to learning and knowledge sharing across levels of government on environmental sustainability issues. A background paper exploring the benefits, challenges and trends in urban trees across metropolitan Melbourne was prepared by the Accord to inform the event.
